Former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Wednesday that the people of Pakistan cannot be left at the mercy of the incumbent regime, adding that stable solutions are needed for the country to move forward, Aaj News reported.

Speaking to reporters alongside Imran Ismail and Amir Kayani outside Adiala Jail, Fawad said the 250 million people of Pakistan cannot be left at the mercy of PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

“Given Pakistan’s situation, it is not possible to leave the people of Pakistan at the mercy of parties in the Pakistan Democratic Movement government,” he said.

He said the incumbent PDM-led government was “directly responsible” for the political and economic uncertainty in the country.

“It will not be possible at any cost that the position of opposition is left vacant” he stressed.

He also shared that they held a detailed talk with Asad Umar and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in this regard, adding that they are in contact with other former leaders of the party.

Fawad also called for the need to show “collective responsibility” to bring out numerous innocent people and workers behind bars.

“The people who are in jail were not directly linked to these matters and bringing them out is our collective responsibility," he said.

Fawad stressed that it was their collective responsibility to stop what happened on May 9.

Former PTI leaders' press conference came as an exodus of second-tier leadership continues unabated following the attacks on military installations in May 2009.

Earlier, PTI Chairman Imran Khan alleged that the party leaders and his supporters in jail were being tortured for not abandoning the party; they (the coalition government) were also pursuing the party ticket-holders to force them to abandon the PTI.

"They know that hardly 100 to 150 people were involved in the arson attack while the rest were staging peaceful protests,” he added.

Khan also claimed that a new drama of establishing a new political party was being staged and simultaneously, many of those deserting the PTI were now lobbying for more deserters.

“They were being allured into the new party; an effort was being made to create a ‘king’s party’ by gathering individuals from various political backgrounds. Those orchestrating the current chaos know that none of the parties within the ruling coalition can win in the elections and establish a capable government,” he added.
