KARACHI: Fawad Ali Gilani has joined K-Electric as Chief Distribution Officer (CDO), as Amer Zia will retire on 2nd June 2023 after serving KE on the same slot, since 2015.
As per KE officials, Fawad has twenty years of experience in power system planning and operation, policymaking, and regulations.
He has worked in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (UK), holding various senior positions.
His most recent role was as Planning and Energy Markets Director at Department of Energy Abu Dhabi, overseeing the review of multiple planning statements and the development of the policies and strategies related to the energy transition, market, and competition where it has the potential to provide value.
They said, during his time in the UAE, Fawad led in implementing several sector reforms initiatives and developing energy transition policies such as Clean Energy Targets, Waste-to-Energy Policy, Low-carbon Hydrogen Policy, and Regulatory Framework, among others.
Before moving to the UAE, Fawad worked for UK’s Transmission System Operator (National Grid) for eight years and held various technical and managerial roles.
Fawad holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics from the University of Manchester and an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology.
KE officials said that Amer Zia will retire on 2nd June 2023 after serving the power utility since 2015. As the Chief Distribution Officer, KE he has successfully enhanced operational management, network reliability, safety, stakeholder management, and resource optimization, despite significant challenges such as the pandemic and economic downturn.
