According to data gathered by Business Recorder on Saturday, various police stations in the federal capital registered 11 cases of car lifting, 10 robberies and a case of murder during the past week. Last week, Kohsar Police registered two cases of car lifting and two of robbery, Shalimar Police registered two cases of car-jackings, Nilore police registered two cases of robberies and Barakahu police also registered two cases of robberies.
Margalla, Lohi Beer and Industrial Area Police Stations registered one case each of robbery. Tarnol Police Station registered one case each of robbery and carjacking, Sabzi Mandi, Ramna and Golra police station registered one case each of car lifting. Abpara Police Station registered one case each of robbery and murder during the week.
"The main reason for the increase in car thefts and robberies in the city is infrequent patrolling of law enforcement agencies. Top police officials have not yet chalked out a strategy to nab criminal gangs. This is another reason for the rising crime rate," an official said.
Residents in various areas of the city complained that muggers were roaming freely while police were unable to arrest them. They said that in late hours of night, young boys on bikes snatched cell phones and cash from people, but police took no action against them.
