KARACHI: The cyclonic “Biparjoy” in the Arabian Sea is likely to grow into a very severe cyclonic storm, barrelling some 1340 kilometers south of Karachi coast at present, the Met Office said on Wednesday.
The storm has already intensified into a severe cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea, but poses no threats to the country’s coastline at present, positioning near latitude 12.8°N and longitude 66.1°E.
With a maximum sustained surface speed, the storm is swirling between 90 kilometers and 120 kilometers per hour around its center, it said.
A fit environment with a sea surface temperature of 30-32 Celsius, a low vertical wind shear and upper-level divergence, it is likely to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm.
After becoming a very severe cyclonic storm, it is expected to continue moving in north and northwest direction on the Arabian Sea, it said and advised the concerned authorities to stay alert.
