Three alleged arms smugglers arrested

Anti Extremist Cell (AEC) of Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Monday claimed to have arrested three alleged arms smugglers and recovered a huge cache of weapons from a passenger bus in the limits of Maripur police station. According to SSP AEC Muhammad Aslam Khan, the AEC team on the directives of AIGP, CID Ghulam Shabir Shaikh and DIGP, CID Dr Kamran Fazal started snap checking to avert terrorism activities in the city.
He said the AEC team on a tipoff intercepted an intercity bus (LSC-256) near Lucky Pahari at Hub River road in the jurisdiction of Maripur police station. He said they had detained three alleged arms smugglers and recovered huge cache of weapons from hidden cavities of bus during search. The seized weapons include one LMG, 30 hand grenades, five Kalashnikovs, 12 Repeaters, five TT pistols, 160kgs of Hashish and several rounds of different calibers.
SSP AEC further said the accused persons during initial course of investigation revealed that they belonged to inter-provincial arms smuggling group. He said these detained persons collected the said weapons from Ahmad in Turbat, Balochistan and were going to deliver it to Chacha Ghulam at Yousuf Goth area. These accused persons were nominated in three different cases. Further investigation was underway.
