Containers remained stuck on Sunday at Port Qasim (QICT) as these could not be examined due to non-availability of custom officers for assessment. Pakistan Bedwear Exporters Association (PBEA) former chairman Shabir Ahmed in a letter sent on October 1, to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Ali Arshad Hakeem pointed out to difficulties by PBEA members as a result of shutting down of containers.
He said that one of PBEA members D L NASH (PVT) LTD had sent for loading one container No BSIU2194690 with two GD. (1) GD No .KPPE -SB-35477 was sent for assessment at 6.20 am on September 30 (Sunday).(2) GD No KPPE-SB-35479 was sent for assessment at 6.10 am on September 30 (Sunday).
Loading for GD KPPE-SB 35477 was okayed at 7.20 am on September 30 (Sunday) but other GD No KPPE-SB-35479 was okayed at 2.00 pm (ie after eight hours) and due to which container was shut-out. Had this GD been assessed at 7.20 am the container would not have been shut-out.
According to details available here, GD No KPPE-SB-35477 sent for assessment at 6.20 am was assessed after one hour at 7.20 am whereas GD No KPPE-SB-35479 sent for assessment at 6.10 am before 10 minutes of GD No KPPE-SB-35477 was assessed after eight hours (ie at 2.00 pm). Shabir Ahmed phoned the Assistant Collector at 11.00 am same day but it was too late.
Due to the above container shut-out PBEA members are removing container from Port Qasim for air shipment. They will have to pay penalty for late shipment to their buyers for which loss who will be responsible, he questioned? He has requested FBR Chairman to take necessary action against concerned officials for this negligence.
