Anti-dengue drive begins

Chairman Dengue Response Committee Haji Allah Rakha MPA said that the process of checking preventive measures and equipment for meeting any emergent situation and finding dengue larva and destroying it in factories has been started from October 6 to October 10 and 23 teams have been constituted for this purpose.
He expressed these views during anti-dengue campaign at Cantt. Court here on Sunday. Haji Allah Rakha said that such factories as have not emergency alarm, fire equipment and emergency exit should be bound to make these arrangements within three days otherwise strict legal action would be taken against them.
Haji Allah Rakha said that besides preventive measures against dengue virus, the process of creating awareness against this fatal disease is continuing at all levels. He said that Punjab government has ensured protection of lives of the people by taking steps on emergent basis, the credit of which goes to Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. He said that due to wide publicity campaign, there is more awareness among the people about this virus than last that of year and as a result of joint efforts of people and the government, the dengue situation is under control this year. He expressed the hope that the virus would be rid of permanently in future.
Officers of concerned departments while giving briefings informed the meeting that the water in the existing ponds has been dried and fish have been released to such ponds where drainage of water is impossible. Dr. Nauman of Health Department informed the meeting that larva has been found at 39 places during last three days which included five open places whereas remaining residential areas. He informed that due to drying of water, the mosquito is shifting to houses; therefore, next 15 days are very important.
