LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday denied further physical remand of former police inspector Abid Hussain, alias Abid Boxer, to the police in a case of alleged extortion and attack on a police team.
Earlier, Faisal Town police produced the former inspector before the court on expiry of his previous physical remand. The investigating officer contended before the court that further custody of Abid Boxer was required to recover an official Kalashnikov snatched by him from a constable. He, therefore, asked the court to extend the physical remand of the suspect for further 15 days.
A counsel of the suspect said the charge of snatching a police rifle against his client was fabricated. The court asked the IO as to why he failed to recover the rifle during the last seven days and turned down the plea of further remand.
The police alleged that Abid and other suspects were involved in extortion and attacking a police team. It said the former inspector snatched an official rifle from a constable and escaped custody and was later arrested from Kasur.
