10 Oct, 2012

The government is trying to facilitate overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes in the upcoming general election through postal ballot. This was stated on Tuesday by Minister for Law and Justice, Farooq H Naek at the National Assembly while responding to a point of order of Usman Tarkazai, a parliamentarian from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
The minister said people living abroad are unable to come to Pakistan to cast their votes in the election and the law ministry is working to provide them the facility in their respective countries to cast their votes. The ministry said the government has already introduced a bill in the parliament to bring about amendment to the article of the Constitution regarding dual nationality.
He said the bill is pending with the Senate's standing committee on law and justice which is represented by all the political parties and they have to decide whether they wanted to bring about amendment to the Constitution or not. Usman Tarkazai deplored that overseas Pakistanis, who have been a critical source of remittances that were providing support to the foreign exchange reserves don't have the right of vote.
