ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has received highest number of 52.24 percent fresh complaints against Income Tax department during 2023.
According to the FTO’s annual report released on Thursday, tax-wise break-up of total fresh complaints with percentage indicated that the complaints in the category of Income Tax are greater in number, nearly 52.24% which is more than all other categories of taxes put together.
Within the category of Sales Tax, the FTO has received 28 percent complaints followed by 18 percent complaints pertaining to the Customs department during this period.
Around 2 percent complaints have been filed against cases relating to the Federal Excise Duty (FED) during 2023. The remaining percent complaints are related to other issues of mal-administration.
Over 93.50 percent of the recommendations of the FTO office had been accepted by the FBR during this period.
During the year under report, 7,561 complaints were received and 833 carried over from previous year. While 149 cases were added through own motion action and 54 cases were carried over from previous year in the category of OM and three inspection cases. Out of total 8,963 complaints/cases, 7,889 were disposed of either at initial stage of investigation or after completion of investigation.
