A three-day International Conference on Chemistry organised by the National Centre of Excellence in Physical Chemistry University of Peshawar (UoP) in Collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Science Foundation and Chemistry Society of Pakistan was started here on Monday.
The varsity vice chancellor Dr Qibla Ayaz formally inaugurated the international event. At the opening session, the President Chemistry Society of Pakistan Dr Din Muhammad and Director NCE in Physical Chemistry Professor Dr Hassan Mehmood were present. More than 300 delegates comprising of scientists from Turkey, China are participating in the conference, along with participants from across the country.
Speaking at the inaugural session, the VC UOP Dr Qibla Ayaz said that the new era of globalisation has posed many challenges to scientists and it's their responsibility to develop a road map in order to pool ideas and researches for the best use of the general public. "Who would have thought that the ideas presented in the Harry Porter fictions would never have turned into reality. Certainly, it is because of the persistent research and innovation of scientists that we are compelled to believe the fact that if we can dream anything, we can certainly make it happen," he added.
Earlier the chief organiser of the conference Professor Dr Muhammad Ilyas said that the National Centre for Excellence in Physical Chemistry had organised the 11th International and 23rd National Conference with the spirit of working hard for the economic revival of the country. He added that the centre has so far produced 78 Ph. D`s and 169 M. Phil, which is a hallmark achievement. The President Chemistry Society of Pakistan Dr Din Muhammad said that the number of scientists is ever-increasing but unfortunately the quality of our researchers is going down.
