16 Oct, 2012

The Met Office has urged farmers to cultivate winter vegetables in time with a view to utilising the existing soil moisture fully. The office in its advisory said that growers of the rain-crop areas should remove the weeds to prepare their fields for the next Rabi crops.
It said that farmers of irrigated lands should harvest Kharif crops including cotton in time so that the sowing of the Rabi crops, especially the wheat crop, may be possible in time, without any delay. "The most suitable time with respect to available soil moisture, temperature and other weather parameters and expected maximum yield for the agricultural lands of Punjab, Sindh and KP is 1-20th November for the wheat crop," advised the office.
It forecast mainly dry weather in most parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan till October 20. It said that mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. However, light rain is expected at isolated places of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from October 15.
