National goat show begins today

All preparations have been finalised to kick off a three-day National Goat Show at University of Agriculture from October 19 to 21, 2012. The objectives of the show is to provide an opportunity to the animals farmers to sell their sacrificial animals in the heart of the city and at the same time to open a window to the local buyers under one umbrella so purchase sacrificial animals on competitive and affordable rates.
The goat show would consist Flock Beauty (5 females + 1 breeding male), individual beauty (male, female), pair beauty (1 male + 1 female), weight competition, milk competition, best kid of the show, best animal of the show, best breeder of the show, best participating office of the show, and best participating support staff of the show.
The National goat show would provide an opportunity for goat lovers at public and private level to show their breeds and compete for highest weight, milk and beauty. In Pakistan, there are 36 breeds of goat with a total population of over 60 million so preference for goat meat is the major reason for its faster growth in the country.
The goat show is aiming at raising the public awareness on availability of diversity in goats and conservation of indigenous goat breeds, promote awareness at public level for raising of good quality goats as pets, for sacrifice and for commercial purposes, organise goat farmers into an association for augmentation of breed improvement and conservation efforts, achieve student teaching and demonstration regarding indigenous breeds of goat available in Pakistan and to provide youth of Pakistan an opportunity of healthy festivities through goat show/competitions.
