ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vehemently denounced the ban on meeting with party founding chairman Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in jail on the pretext of security risks in a bid to stop the former prime minister from appearing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan via video link in NAB amendments case today (Thursday).
Speaking at a presser along with PTI leaders Advocate Abuzar Salman Niazi and Naeem Panjutha, PTI spokesman Raoof Hasan said that the party is extremely concerned about Imran Khan’s wellbeing as he is not being allowed to undergo medical examination for the last 15-20 days despite court orders.
“Bushra Bibi is also being denied medical checkup for the last two months…the rulers are reluctant to allow Khan from undergoing medical checkup at Shaukat Khanum Hospital and he is not being provided the entitled facilities in jail,”he regretted.
Raoof expressed apprehensions over the strange developments during the past two days, as Imran Khan’s security guards were suddenly changed at midnight and hearings of Al-Qadir, cipher and Toshakhana cases were postponed under lame excuses, while the government’s counsel in Iddat case has left the country all of a sudden.
The apex court has issued orders to present Imran Khan through a video link, but the rulers are petrified and busy in creating hurdles to stop his appearance in the court, he regretted.
Hasan lambasted the government for its reaction to the letter written by Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Babar Sattar, who informed the chief justice IHC that he was asked to back off from the audio leak case and added that meddling in judicial affairs is continuing unabated.
Raoof contended that the government tried to prove the IHC judge “a liar” like CJP called Commissioner Rawalpindi’s testimony about polls’ fraud as “a lie” without any investigation.
About Dubai leaks, he said that as the country goes around the world with a begging bowl collecting loans to survive another day, the corrupt ruling elite laundered their illicit billions in lavish properties in the Middle East.
A member of PTI’s legal team Abuzar Salman said that the purpose of the spy agencies’ meddling in judicial matters is to get decisions of their choice, adding when decisions are being made as per someone’s choice, the constitution and law had to be sacrificed.
Abuzar claimed that the powers that be are not happy with what the Lahore High Court (LHC)chief justice is doing to ensure merit in the appointment of judges.
He continued that the appointment of five judges which the LHC CJ had made are still waiting for their appointment letters which the government is not issuing as it wants to handpick “tout” judges to get favourable decisions.
