DEC seizes hashish concealed in pistachio nuts

20 Oct, 2012

Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of Pakistan Customs on Friday claimed to have seized a half kilogram of hashish concealed in pistachio nuts booked for Costa Rica in Latin America. According to details, Customs DEC staff during clearance of outgoing international mail intercepted a postal parcel booked for Costa Rica from Quetta.
The sender had declared contents of the parcel as "dry fruits". Upon examination the Customs staff found that the parcel apparently contained shelled pistachios, however, a discrete examination revealed that contraband Hashish (Charas) was concealed in part of the consignment by replacing the actual nuts with small Hashish balls. After replacement the pistachios were re-capped and given original look by pasting with transparent glue.
Consequent upon recovery and seizure of contraband narcotics, a prosecution case under Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 has been registered and efforts are being made to apprehend the sender of the seized parcel. Further investigations are in progress. In addition to this 4.90-Kg of heroin was also recovered and seized from outgoing passengers and parcels by the DEC staff during the month of September and October, 2012.-PR
