Indian shares edge up on broad-based gains

BENGALURU: Indian shares edged up on Friday after falling about 2% this week, helped by broad-based gains across sectors.

The NSE Nifty 50 was up 0.4% at 22,585 points, while the S&P BSE Sensex gained 0.4% to 74,423 points, as of 9:20 a.m. IST.

The benchmarks saw five straight sessions of losses, ending down nearly 1% on Thursday, as investors trimmed their positions ahead of the election outcome next week.

Indian shares fall for fifth session on weak global cues, election uncertainties

Metal stocks and state-run companies rose 1% each and were top sectoral gainers.
