Punjab's by-elections: President approves nominations for election tribunal

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday, on the advice of the Prime Minister, approved nominations for the Election Tribunal to dispose of appeals against the decisions of the Returning Officer rejecting/accepting the nomination papers for by-elections in constituencies PP-129 Sialkot-IX and PP-133 Narowal-II.
Bye-Elections in these constituencies are scheduled to be held on 27th November. Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the Election Commission, under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act 1976, proposed three judges of Peshawar High Court for the Tribunal namely Mr Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh, Mr Justice Muhammad Anwaarul Haq and Mr Justice Abdus Sattar Asghar for disposing appeals in these two constituencies.
The proposed names were then routed through the Law Ministry in a summary for the Prime Minister who subsequently advised the President to approve the nominations. Appeals, if any, against acceptance / rejection of nomination papers will be filed by 2nd November and the appeals are due to be disposed of by the Tribunal by 6th November.
