SU plays vital role in uplift, progress of Pakistan: vice chancellor

Sindh University (SU) Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir A Mughal has said that the SU is a premier university which always played a vital role in the development and progress of Pakistan.
He said that Sindh University is the first university after partition, calling the Punjab University to be the first University of the country is not a truth because it existed before partition. He was addressing the candidates who had come to appear in the pre-entry test for Masters/ M.S/M.Phil degree programs at Arts Faculty Building, University of Sindh Jamshoro.
Dr Nazir A Mughal further said the name of Sindh University is famous for its best results in the field of higher education in the country and imparting quality education adding that we have a lot of well-known and able doctors, physicians and engineers working in all over the world including UK, USA and Canada. He said Liaqat Medical College and Mehran Engineering College were the branches of Sindh University in past and thus this varsity created a number of professionals who are rendering their services abroad. Dr Mughal said the Pakistani nation needs a developed Pakistan and a bright as well as positive future and it lies with seeking the quality education and research.
He quoted Higher Education Commission (HEC) as saying in its report Sindh University stood on number 11 out of 211 Universities in the country which is an immense success vowing that he will bring the University on number 1 in the field of imparting education and research with the passage of time. He lauded his faculty for being highly qualified and convinced to focus on research work on the campus. "Over 50 teachers and students have been sent abroad for research and doing their PhDs' on the scholarships of Government, I am sure those who pay attention to research work, would shine out once; everyone who believes in conducting research work is labelled as scientist which is really a great honour", Dr Mughal said.
The Vice Chancellor stressed both on the faculty and students to conduct more research to steer the university to crying triumph. He further said he was happy because a large number of candidates showed their interest for M.Phil degree program which is a great thing. After the speech of the worthy Vice Chancellor, Pre-Entry test for admissions in Masters/ M.S/M.Phil degree programs for the session 2013 was held at Arts Faculty Building, in which nearly 4361 male and female candidates participated. In Sindh University Jamshoro and its Campuses Badin, Dadu and Thatta jointly 4622 male and female candidates appeared in pre entry test.
According to details, for getting admissions in different masters' degree programs, a total number of 2656 candidates got their forms submitted for seeking admissions in Sindh University Jamshoro, out of which 15 forms were rejected owing to incomplete documents whereas 2641 candidates (1909 male and 737 female) appeared in the test. Similarly, a large number of 1700 candidates were appeared for M.S/M.Phil degree programs. It may be noted that nearly 150 percent rise has been experienced this year comparing to the last year 2012 which is a great success of this University and fulfilment of the dream of Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir A. Mughal who always stressed on the teachers to ensure research work which is need of the day.
