The Prime Minister's Advisor on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain has resigned from his Senate seat following a controversy about his dual nationality. According to sources, he has also been holding Canadian citizenship. Sabir Baloch, acting Chairman Senate, has accepted Dr Hussain's resignation.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed Interior Minister Rehman Malik to provide details regarding parliamentarians having dual nationalities. On September 20, the Supreme Court ruled that 11 lawmakers holding dual nationalities were not eligible to hold any public office and declared all such lawmakers as disqualified. The apex court had also directed the disqualified lawmakers to return the amount spent on their salaries and other perks and privileges.
