University of Gujrat and Trust for History Art and Architecture, Pakistan (THAAP) with the support of Higher Education Commission (HEC) joined hands to organise the Third Thaap Conference to take place on 9, 10, 12 and 13 November on the theme: Life in Small Towns. The venue for the 3-day paper reading sessions will be Thaap office and the 4th day is devoted to a visit to the University of Gujrat that organised talks on Gujrat and site-visits to the City.
According to the press statement issued here on Tuesday 91 abstracts of papers were received of which 44 have been selected for presentation. Speakers from Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, USA, UK and Pakistan in all scholars from 38 universities are participating. University of the Punjab, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, and Kinnaird College for Women are also extending full collaboration.
Small towns get neglected as the major effort of the state is directed towards the more glamorous large cities. Politicians and other decision makers continuously talk of making some city or another into a European prototype (Paris is the great favourite) and most of the investment is directed towards the capital cities.
