All Pakistani living in the United States are safe despite Hurricane Sandy, Pakistan's Consul-General in New York Faqeer Hussain claimed on Tuesday. Talking to a private television channel on Tuesday, Hussain said that an emergency cell was set up in Pakistan's Embassy and Consulate to tackle the issue. He said that officials were keeping a close watch.
Hussain said that there were no reports regarding any injury to any Pakistani national in the hurricane. He said that the condition in New York was worst, adding that all possible initiatives were being taken to handle the situation. Earlier, Pakistan's embassy in Washington DC and the Consulate-General in New York had urged Pakistani expatriates to remain vigilant and follow safety precautions laid out by US authorities for areas affected by the huge storm.
Pakistan embassy said in a statement that a number of steps had been taken to stay in touch with expatriate Pakistanis in the affected states. The Embassy had urged members of the Pakistani community to take all necessary safety precautions as laid out by their respective district governments and to approach the nearest emergency centre whenever needed. The embassy's website contained contact details of key embassy officials for any emergency, the embassy statement said.
