26 killed in Bahawalpur road accident

As many as 26 persons were killed when a fully packed passenger van collided with a truck in Bahawalpur district some 100 km south of Multan on Tuesday. Sohail Tajik, District Police Officer of Bahawalpur, told media that the accident took place at noon when a Hiace passenger van had a head-on collision with a truck on a highway in Bahawalpur, a private television channel reported.
Twenty six persons including 11women and kids have been killed in the accident, said the district police officer, adding that the accident occurred due to over speed. Irshad Haider Bukhari, a police office said from the scene that the van carrying 22 passengers was going to Ahmedpur Sharqia from Bahawalpur and Hiluxe carrier loaded with 15 passengers was coming to Bahawalpur from Samasatta collided head on four-kilometre away from Bahawalpur at a blind curve. Resultantly 26 passengers have so far been died.
DPO Bahawalpur Suhail Habib Tariq said that 20 passengers had died on the spot. "I am not aware of another person who died in Hospital." District Emergency Officer Dr Abdul Sattar said that 22 passengers including van driver were killed and 15 injured. This happened due to reckless driving. He said van was badly damaged and the bodies of ill-fate passengers were taken out after cutting vehicle's body. Dr Muhammad Irshad Chaudhry Medical Superintendent of Bahawal-Victoria Hospital said "bodies are being shifted to hospital, 10 bodies have so far been reached and 13 injured were taken to hospital, one of them succumbed to injuries here."
