The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday issued notice to the principal secretary of Prime Minister, in Hajj corruption case. "The FIA has issued notice to Qazi Ayub, principal secretary to the Prime Minister for not providing the record regarding the appointment of Rao Shakeel, former Director General (DG) Hajj, to the agency's investigators," a senior official said.
He said that FIA had asked the principal secretary to record his statement before FIA investigators. The FIA had earlier informed the apex court that Prime Minister's Secretariat, Establishment Division and Ministry of Hajj were not co-operating with investigators pertaining to the record of former DG Haj Rao Shakeel in Hajj corruption case.
The official said that former DG Hajj Rao Shakeel and additional secretary to ministry of religious affairs Raja Aftab-ul-Islam were accused of committing widespread corruption in renting residential accommodation for Pakistani pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, inflicting a loss of a billion of rupees to the national exchequer. Most of the buildings rented by the Hajj administrators were five kilometres away from the Haram Sharif, while according to law the accommodation for Hajjis should not be more than two kilometres away, he said.
