Street crimes on the rise in federal capital

There were at least 15 robberies across the city over the past week in which various households were deprived of gold ornaments and other valuables worth millions of rupees. Six cars had also been lifted or snatched by carjackers from various parts of the city. One person was reported to have been murdered during the past week.
According to the data gathered by Business Recorder, Industrial Area Police Station registered two cases each of car lifting and robbery, Bani Galla and Women Police Stations registered two cases of robberies each over the past week. One case each of robbery and murder was registered with Ternol Police Station, one case each of carjacking and robbery was registered with Sabzi Mandi Police Station, one case each of robbery and car lifting was registered by Margalla Police Station. Sihala, Shalimar, Koral and Bara Kahu Police Stations registered one case each of robbery during the same period. Kohsar Police Station registered one case each of car lifting and robbery and Lohi beer Police Station registered one case of robbery in the period under review.
Incidents of street crimes, including mobile phone thefts and purse snatchings, also increased over the same period, prompting citizens to urge the local authorities to curb such criminal acts. Residents of various city areas complained that working women were increasingly targeted in such incidents. They also complained about ineffective police patrolling, saying that robberies had increased in frequency despite heightened security measures.
