04 Nov, 2012

Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday observed that no one could dare to resist the successive martial laws imposed in the country, derailing the democracy. Addressing Sheikhupura Bar Association, the Chief Justice said the man who honours law has right to lead the country, adding that the rule of law is guarantee to the security and survival of the country.
He said the dictators tried to devastate law and order situation in the country but lawyers' community had decided on November 3 to liberate it out of cruel clutches of dictators who had nothing to do with civil rights. He said history records that the first constitution of the state was formed by the parliament.
The Chief Justice said rulers in past imposed emergency in order to suppress the lawyers' movement but young lawyers proved with their unconditional and sincere sacrifices that they would not compromise over national interests. And with the passage of time they proved that they were sincere to their cause and commitment, said the Chief Justice. He said it is a reality that nobody dared to stand in face of dictatorship in the country; it was lawyers' movement who challenged dictators and ultimately with the support of other sections of society succeeded in achieving their goal.
They not only got the judiciary liberated but also ousted the dictator who had underestimated the rule of law, he said. He said now the parliament and the judiciary would never support any martial law. Earlier, he had said in his address delivered to Sargodha Bar Association that people have great expectations out of judiciary; so justice should be delivered to people at their doorsteps without any discrimination.
