Bogus degrees: PBCT cancels licence of advocate

A Punjab Bar Council Tribunal (PBCT) here on Saturday cancelled practicing licence of Advocate Anjum Sohail Maan for having bogus degree. During the proceedings Advocate Maan of Sheikhupura voluntarily confessed his guilt about the bogus documents and requested the tribunal for lenient view. The tribunal cancelled his license and certificate for pleading as advocate.
The tribunal also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on him and directed to pay the amount to the Punjab Bar Council within a week and submit its receipt before the tribunal on next hearing. The Tribunal was headed by Justice Sheikh Najamul Hassan of the Lahore High Court.
The tribunal also suspended license of Advocate Zafar Ali Khan till November 15 on the basis of serious allegations. Three complaints were lodged against him by Miss Arshia Javed, Muhammad Hussain and Malik Tariq Ali. In another appeal against Advocate Rizwan Israr Razi of Gujrat, the tribunal directed Controller of Punjab University to hold an inquiry and fix responsibility on the university officials involved in issuance of bogus result card and for making fabrications in the university record on the basis of which Punjab Law College issued him Provisional Certificate. The Principal of the law college was also directed to appear in person on next hearing.
Hearing another case the tribunal directed DSP (Investigation) of Civil Lines Lahore to appear and explain as to why proceedings had not been initiated against Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Naeem of Toba Take Singh for being declared a proclaimed offender by the investigation officer.
In another similar case degree of Advocate Ahsanullah hailing from Layyah was found bogus on verification by Deputy Controller of Examinations Baha-ud-Din Zakariya University whereas Assistant Controller of the University present in the court claimed it to be valid degree.
The tribunal directed the Deputy Controller to appear on next hearing along with record on the basis of which he had earlier declared the degree is bogus. The tribunal also took up the matter of bogus degree of Sh. Abdul Majeed of Lahore and directed the Controller of Baha-ud-Din Zakariya University to appear with original record to verify the degree. The tribunal also summoned Principal of Lahore Law College in a case of bogus degree possessed by Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar Advocate belonging to Chunian. Besides the cases of bogus degrees the tribunal also heard complaints of professional misconduct filed against Advocates Muhammad Sajjad Butt, Tahir Naeem, Waqar Hanif Bhatti, Nasir Mahmood Javed, Nasir Mahmood, Iftikar-ud-Din, and Pervaiz Aslam Chaudhry.
