Post-retirement benefits: KPT workers seek Supreme Court intervention

Karachi Port Trust Workers organisation on Saturday urged Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take notice of the plight of the harbour workers whom the former government had handed a forced retirement. Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Secretary of Organisation of Karachi Port Trust Workers, Bashir Khan Bangash told reporters that the workers were not given post-retirement benefits which the law guaranteed them.
He said the former army chief General Pervaiz Musharraf (Retd) and his relative-then KPT chief, Ahmad Hayat-forced workers to take retirement but denied provision of all after job financial other such benefits. He said the workers had been given retirement on the pretext of surplus pool of labourers. He said now the KPT is appointing workers on the political grounds on the same posts which Musharraf had made vacant.
