Slain MQM leader laid to rest

The slain local leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and former acting Nazim City Taluka of Hyderabad district Jalilur Rehman was laid to rest here on Sunday.
A large number of leaders and workers including the MNAs and MPAs of the MQM attended the Namaz-e-Janaza and later the burial took place at Tando Yousuf graveyard.
The Rabita Committee's Shakir Ali and central leader Aamir Khan, in charge of MQM Sindh organising committee Muhammad Umar and Rauf Khan among others were also present at the burial.
A large police contingent provided security in the area surrounding the graveyard.
Rehman was shot dead while Sher Mohammad Alias Sheru was injured in an armed attack at a roadside hotel near Memon hospital in the jurisdiction of Fuleli police station late on Saturday night.
He sustained 4 gunshots in the chest and abdomen and died before being taken to the hospital, said Dr Idrees the medico legal officer at Civil Hospital Hyderabad.
The Zonal in charge of MQM Muhammad Sharif while expressing deep sadness and anger over the killing demanded immediate arrest of the killers. Meanwhile, Nishat Cinema, Memon hospital, bangles market, cloth market, Pingrapur, Fuleli, Paretabad and Ilyasabad areas shut down in mourning on Sunday.
Advocate Aneesur Rehman, elder brother of the deceased, said that his family has no enmity which could be taken as the cause of the killing.
SHO Fuleli police station Yousuf Siddiqi said that the FIR has not been registered but the police are investigating the people who were present at the crime scene to know about the identities of the attackers. According to him, 2 persons riding a motorbike attacked Rehman, who was sitting with Sheru at his roadside Kabab Hotel.
