KTBA requests FBR chairman to appoint commissioner for CTO Zone–II

KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has requested the chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to immediately appoint a commissioner for the Corporate Tax Office Zone – II in Karachi, citing critical administrative challenges that have disrupted office operations for the last three months.

In a letter sent to the Chairman FBR, Rashid Mahmood Langrial, KTBA highlighted the significant impact of the prolonged vacancy, failing to fill the Commissioner Inland Revenue Zone – II position resulted substantial obstacles in tax administration.

The letter stated that the temporary three-month additional charge arrangement has expired, leaving the crucial position vacant, adding that this administrative gap has caused severe operational impediments, including delays in processing tax-related documents, disruptions in issuing exemption certificates, and challenges in managing compliance-related matters

Furthermore, KTBA emphasized that the prolonged absence of a designated Commissioner was causing difficulties for both taxpayers and tax practitioners who depend on the timely processing of applications and official requests.

The association has also requested an immediate appointment to the vacant post, stressing the need to restore the efficient functioning of the Karachi Corporate Tax Office and prevent further inconvenience to taxpayers.
