Bid to smuggle arms into Karachi foiled

Police on Wednesday foiled a bid to smuggle arms to Karachi and seized a heavy cache of arms from a bus near Superhighway, Sohrab Goth area. Speaking at the news conference at his office, DIGP East Shahid Hayat said that a police party headed by him and SSP Investigation East-I Naveed Ahmad Khwaja conducted a joint raid on Wednesday by intercepting a bus DYU-A55 at Superhighway, Sohrab Goth.
During search they sized heavy cache of arms. He said that police impounded 19 SMGs with 40 magazines, 21 rifle-303, 04 pistols, 1 hand grenade and hundreds of live bullets. Police also arrested driver Mohammad Fayaz, a cleaner Dost Mohammad and transport agent Shakeel. DIG believed that weapons to be used in terrorism activities on the eve of upcoming holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram and forthcoming general elections. He said that further investigation was underway in this regard.
