Obesity, physical inactivity main reasons behind rise in diabetes cases

The Diabetes is predicted to become the seventh leading cause of death in the world by the year 2030. About 347 million people world-wide were suffered by the diabetes. A total of deaths from diabetes are projected to rise by more than 50 percent in the next 10 years. More than 80 percent of diabetes deaths occur in low and middle-income countries.
A large proportion of cases of diabetes and its complications can be prevented by a healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and avoiding tobacco. These views were expressed by the Chairman Pakistan Medical Society and President General cadre Doctor's Association Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh and other health experts while addressing the world Diabetes Day seminar with a theme "Diabetes education and prevention".
The seminar was organised under the auspices' of Pakistan Medical Society in collaboration with Mother and Child Rehabilitation Society at Special Kids Inn school, Lahore. Dr Tahira, Dr Israr Hussain Asif, Dr Haris Burki and Rana saeed Akhtar also addressed. MPA Dr Zamurd Yasmeen Rana was the chief guest.
