After serving as the President of the Canada-Pakistan Business Council (CPBC) for 16 years, Andy Merchant has stepped down from the top-slot, citing personal reasons. Director, CPBC, Faheem Ataullah Jan, who has served on the board of directors for the last 16 years, also threw in the towel on the same day. Samir Dossal was elected as the new President to replace Merchant, at a meeting of the board of directors of the CPBC on Monday.
Dossal is an engineer by profession and also a businessman. Having worked closely with the outgoing President Dossal has also participated in several trade missions to Pakistan. With his professional and business knowledge as well as contacts both in Pakistan and in Canada, he brings enormous knowledge and experience to the Council. Meanwhile Jayne Pilot, who has also been serving as a director of CPBC was elected Vice President.
The board also elected Farah Shams of Ethnic Marketing as a Director to replace Faheem Ataullah. Both outgoing office bearers will continue to support the council as advisors. Incoming President Samir Dossal expressed his gratitude to his predecessor and other members of the council. He highlighted the council's role as a strong voice for Pakistan-Canada business ties and in building bridges between the two nations.-PR
