Managing Director (MD) Pak Arab Refinery Company (Parco) on Thursday told the Lahore High Court that Euro II Compliant diesel was easily available in country and buses could be run with the said fuel. The MD Parco further stated that the Euro II Compliant diesel was verified by refinery companies as environment friendly fuel.
The court extending the stay against the tenders for purchase of the buses to be run on the said diesel adjourned the hearing the petition to December 6. Previously the court had allowed the government to import only 100 buses for Metro Bus System (MBS), new name of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).
M/s Gujranwala City Tours (pvt) contended in the petition that the government wanted to purchase 1200 Euro II Compliant Diesel buses, which would be given to private bus operators on soft term loan basis. The petitioner said the required fuel was not available in Punjab. He pointed out that even oil refineries had no ability to produce this diesel in near future. He, therefore, prayed to the court to restrain the respondent government from purchasing these buses.
