Suicide attacks are, however, not likely to be forestalled by suspension of pre and post-paid SIM cards and require much more vigilant policing than has been evident so far. There are many who argue that the bulk of the law enforcing agencies are engaged in providing protection to senior members of the federal and provincial governments and hence there is simply not enough staff to provide security to the people of this country. In addition there is the element of political interference in appointments in the police force, including in Karachi, which accounts for the recent post-Eid spate of killings in Nowshera and Karachi.
Thus there is a need to not only proactively develop a plan to ensure that security is provided to all throughout the year and if this requires more recruitments in the police then no one is going to begrudge the extra expenditure as well as to delink police appointments from political interference.
