As many as 69 parliamentarians and six judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan were among the 4.8 million voters, who did not verify or provide their consent of voter registration during door-to-door verification process carried out by Election Commission of Pakistan, although each voter is holding a valid and verified identity.
Nadra Chairman Tariq Malik told media on Saturday that the list also included the names of senior media persons, bureaucrats and some other government officials. He further said that some legislators were deliberately attempting to create trust deficit with a view to postponing the upcoming general election. However, he resolved it would not be possible over such grounds.
The Nadra Chairman stated that about 80.5 million voters have been registered where 80 million (93.5 percent) registered their consent during the door to door campaign consented the same address as permanent and temporary. Out of the remaining 6.5 percent, 4 percent have different addresses as permanent and temporary but they have opted to be registered as voters at their permanent addresses. He said 4.8 million voters just did not give their consent for vote registration either at permanent or temporary address and the Nadra subsequently registered them at their permanent addresses. He said that 2 million deceased have been excluded from the electoral rolls.
Rejecting the allegations of 4.8 million voters, declared fake by some parliamentarian, Tariq said that they have made unreasonable objections. He said that out of the 4.8 million, 1,001,340 bank accounts exist against such voters. 680,826 such voters are machine readable passport holders, out of which 438,468 individuals travelled abroad and returned to Pakistan. 321,907 of such voters are BISP/Bait-ul-Maal beneficiaries and are drawing benefit from government of Pakistan. 148,761 such voters are beneficiaries of floods relief, 168,799 such voters are tax payers while 158,882 of such voters are government/semi-government/armed forces employees. Besides this 3,565 individuals have obtained arms license while 209,488 of such voters have checked their voter entry through "8300".
