Advisor to Chief Minister Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that effective legislation is being made in consultation with concerned departments for eradication of psychological, physical and social violence against women (VaW). She was addressing a meeting held in connection with reviewing the implementation of women package, on Monday.
Secretary Women Development Iram Bukhari, Secretary Social Welfare Tahir Sarfraz Awan, Director Law Mohsin Babar, Director Planning Social Welfare M. Salman and others attended the meeting. Iram Bukhari gave briefing to the meeting regarding progress of women package and approval of Harassment Bill in the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee.
Begum Zakiya directed the meeting that legislation should be given final shape in consultation with law and other departments regarding elimination of violence against women at all level and taking immediate action against those responsible for it.
She said that toll-free helpline should be established for the assistance of women in public dealing departments. She said that immediate action should be taken against those who commit physical violence against women and through acid on them and negative social attitudes should be discouraged. Zakiya Shahnawaz said that women package is aimed at providing legal and social protection to women at all places. She further said that this is a women friendly package, which will leave far reaching impacts in future.
Iram Bukhari and Tahir Sarfraz Awan informed the meeting that a summary regarding restoration of psychological and legal aid at women crisis and rehabilitation centers under the supervision of District Co-ordination Officer at district level has been approved and process is continuing for release of necessary funds for this purpose.
