Sindh government has sent a reminder to the CEO Genco Holding Company regarding an agreement with Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) as per the decision taken by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf during the meeting of Thar Coal Energy Board (TCEB), it is learnt on Monday.
A special meeting of TCEB held under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister on October 3, 2012, in Islamabad, had taken historic decisions for Thar Coal development including conversions of existing oil-based power plants on Thar coal-based specifications and initiation of new coal-based power projects on the same specifications, a coal off-take agreement between Genco and SECMC for supply of coal for existing Jamshoro Power Plant. It was also decided that a new 600MW Power Plant at Jamshoro be finalised and agreement in this regard be signed within a week.
However, despite the passage of more than one month, the Genco Holding Company had not entered into an agreement with SECMC, sources said and added that the Sindh Chief Minister had also sent a letter to the Prime Minister on October 18 for his intervention in the matter so that the decisions were implemented in letter and sprit. Recently Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Mohammad Abbas has written a reminder letter to the concerned authorities of federal government for implementation of the TCEB decisions.
