After synchronised terrorist's attacks on Shia mourners processions in parts of the country, the security further upgraded in the provincial metropolis to avert any eventuality. The security arrangements thoroughly reviewed following to twin attacks on Shia mourners in Karachi and Rawalpindi. Personnels of law enforcement agencies and police were deployed in a large number at Imambargahs and mourners procession in city and rest part of the province.
An official of police said that only 5,000 personnel's backed by paramilitary forces, have been deployed in Peshawar. He informed that additional police force from the different parts of the province, would also call for deployment on eve of the Ashura. The city district government had already imposed Section 144 CrPc for maintenance of law and order during the Muharram, while aerial surveillance would also be carried out in most sensitive districts of KP.
Under the tight security arrangements, all routes heading towards to Imambargahs and mourners processions have completely sealed off by installation of iron rods and putting concrete blocks and erected other barricades. Nobody was allowed to enter the mourners' procession without security cards, while volunteers from Shia community also supervised checking before entrance of people in the processions. A comprehensive security plan already devised to maintain law and order and provide adequate security for protection of more than 25 Imambargahs in most sensitive districts, including Hangu, Tank, D.I.Khan. While the paramilitary forces would remain stand by for the 9th and 10 Muharram, as security packets were already jointly at various sensitive locations in the province.
According to police sources said that from four sides, a total of 37 security check posts have been established to cover ways leading towards Fata. During the 9th-10th Muharram, security jammers would be activated, mobile service will remain suspend in most sensitive parts of the province. Meanwhile, members of Shia community on Thursday took out processions and held Majalis Azha on the 7th Muharram in parts of the provincial metropolis amidst tight security arrangements. The mourner processions passed through designated routes and culminated peacefully in most of the city and cantonment areas.
