The final investigation report on the irregularities in cash payments through the postal departments of Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) will take another 15-20 days to complete.
"The issue of this particular irregularity, although in knowledge of Pakistan Post, was never reported to BISP. Under the Agreement signed between BISP and Pakistan Post, a joint inquiry is required if there is a delay in delivery of payments to beneficiaries that must be completed within 15 days, however as there are thousands of BISP beneficiaries in KP and Fata and the inquiry team is investigating each and every case hence it would take another 15-20 days to complete the inquiry report," Informed sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday.
They said that Pakistan Post had been asked by the BISP management to submit report after proper inquiry. BISP has been receiving complaints of delays and non-payments to the beneficiaries across the country. Each and every complaint has been instantaneously taken up with Pakistan Post. In majority of the cases joint inquiries were conducted and strict disciplinary actions were ensured against those involved in the irregularities.
Action has been taken against more than 170 Pakistan Post officials and millions of rupees have been recovered and repaid to the beneficiaries. "Some officials of the postal departments of Fata and KP have already been removed after an internal inquiry. These officials were found involved in irregularities related to the accounts of the postal department," sources said.
