A strike called by doctors in Balochistan continued on Thursday despite the recovery of Dr Saeed Ahmed, an ophthalmologist, who was abducted a couple of months ago. But in the wake of continuous strike, young doctors are divided in two groups as one of the groups has announced to resume their duties.
Overall, strike is being observed in Civil Hospital, Quetta and in all big and small hospitals/clinics throughout the province. But a group of doctors, who have decided to call off strike, are performing their duties in the Emergency Ward.
After the recovery of Dr Ahmed, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) claimed that his release was secured after paying a ransom and as such the provincial government has role in the release of Dr Ahmed. The PMA also announced that they will continue their strike until their all demands are met.
The doctors' body will announce their future course of action after a meeting of the PMA's core committee scheduled to be held on Thursday. The on-strike doctors demanded the government to apologise over its attitude and conduct judicial inquiry into the police manhandling of the doctors' rally.
