Iran is providing political support as well as supplying ammunitions to Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighting in Lebanon and Palestine against Israel barbarism, but the support is based on principles not denominations.
This was stated by Chairman National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Alaeddin Borojourdi in a policy seminar "Pakistan and Iran in a Changing Global Scenario" organised by Senate's Standing Committee on Defense and Defense Production here on Tuesday. He asserted that the support was purely based on principles and not religious denominations as Hamas and Islamic Jihad are Sunni organisation and Hezbollah is Shia.
He said that the US was responsible of Syrian unrest as the US wanted to reduce pressure on Israel. "It is need of the time that all Muslim countries should unite and build consensus to overcome the challenges confronting the Muslim Ummah nowadays," he urged. Iran's Defence Strategy has no room for an atomic bomb but the country upholds its right to peaceful civilian nuclear program, he said, adding that Iran has acquired uranium enrichment and its development technology. At present Iran is preparing satellite guided missiles to enhance its defense capabilities. Iran would continue to acquire nuclear knowledge for its programme.
"Iran has no intention of building atomic bomb but it would certainly exercise its right to do nuclear research and development for peaceful purposes," he added. Boroujerdi said that not allowing access to its all nuclear installations to international watchdog was part of Iranian defense strategy. Nothing is secret about Iran's nuclear program, he maintained. About departure of foreign troops stationed in Afghanistan, he said Iran was not sure that United States would quit Afghanistan by 2014 , adding that the US intends to counter Iran, Russia and China through it's presence in Afghanistan. "Iran is concerned about the post 2014 scenario of Afghanistan, however, cooperation among Pakistan and Iran at political level would help achieve desired results," he added.
He revealed that Iran successfully brought down the US drone RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft last December and was hoping to achieve the same technology through reverse engineering.
"Iran is in a process of preparing its own drones through reverse engineering of US Drone and in near future Iran's drones would be in the skies for surveillance purposes," he maintained. Iran's model drone "Ayub" has successfully flown over Israel and has been able to capture picture of its sensitive sights which helped Hamas to achieve targets, he disclosed.
He stressed on the necessity of enhancing economic and defense cooperation between the two countries, stating that Iran is committed to the energy pipeline project with Pakistan. Chairman of the Senate Defence Committee Mushahid Hussain Sayed while speaking on the occasion called for stronger political, economic and security ties.
