KMC Adminis-trator Muhammad Hussain Syed has announced the imposition of a ban on the installation of all types of sign boards, bill boards and hoardings in the city whereas the relocation of such boards will also be prohibited. He said this while chairing a meeting held in his office on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Matanat Ali Khan, Director General Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, Sr. Director Transport and Communication Muhammad Ather, Director Local Taxes Akhtar Shaikh and other officers. Administrator Karachi on this occasion said that the image of city was being ruined due to the random and unsystematic installation of sign boards while citizens because of the immense quantity of sign boards were facing difficulties and inconvenience.
He said that henceforth issuance of NOC for every sign board would be linked with the approval from Director General Technical Services and Sr. Director Transport and Communication. He issued directive to remove all sign boards along with other than the auctioned hoardings on Sharae Faisal, Shahrah-e-Pakistan and Shahrah-e-Quaideen immediately. He said Shahrah-e-Quaideen after reconstruction would be the biggest corridor of the city in which four lanes for each track had been made.
Construction of storm water drain with RCC covering has not only widened the road but also made this corridor the widest road in the city. He said that the size of bill boards on Sharah-e-Quaideen should also be reduced. And that big sign boards on various locations are distracting for the drivers in the traffic and impede vision, such boards should be removed from the corridors. He said that all precautionary measures while installation of hoardings should be taken along with taking into consideration the recommended standards and size.
