The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has launched its Data Centre and Cloud Computing Services in a ceremony held here at the Arfa Software Technology Park. This marks the establishment of the Government's first Public cloud by the PITB. The PITB cloud will offer all required services of a Tier-III (Intl. Standard) compliant Data Centre to host applications and services of the public and private sector at the Arfa Software Technology Park Data Centre.
During the event a detailed description was given to the attendees regarding the technological features, services, and benefits of cloud computing. The cloud computing services project, which is named "Cloud for Everyone", offers public and private sector four diverse packages VPS Hosting, Hosted Exchange, Sharepoint Hosting and Website Hosting. These services have the capability to cater to hosting and IT needs of well-established businesses as well as start-ups at an affordable price range.
Speaking on the occasion, PITB Chairman Dr Umar Saif commented that the Board is working to foster a culture of innovation in the Punjab for economic prosperity. In this regard the PITB Public cloud and Data Center services will offer a secure and reliable environment for hosting and will bring the Punjab Government's IT infrastructure to new technological heights. The Punjab Government has taken this step in order to provide world class IT facilities to small and large businesses and public institutions. They can all opt for data centre facilities to manage their IT operations as part of streamlining and running their businesses efficiently, he added.
