Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has constituted four benches including a larger bench at the principal seat to hear several important cases during the next week, starting from December 10. The first bench is comprised of Chief Justice, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh Azmat Saeed while the second will consist of Justices Jawwad S Khawaja and Khilji Arif Hussain who will take up a number of pending cases.
The third bench of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will exercise its appellant and principal jurisdiction through hearing civil, criminal and constitutional matters. A larger bench has been constituted to hear Presidential Reference in the case of appointment of Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges on December 10.
The bench is comprised of Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Tariq Parvez, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed. The Reference filed through a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court Waseem Sajjad has sought advice from the court over the issue of seniority of judges, Judicial Commission and the Parliamentary Committee. According to cause list, no application for adjournment of the cases through fax will be placed before the court. If the counsel is unable to appear before the court for any reason, the Advocate-on-Record will be required to argue the case on his behalf.
