Four killed in Karachi as Rangers launch crackdown

At least four persons, a woman among them, were killed in different incidents of violence in the city on Sunday, police and rescue sources said. A man was gunned down by unknown armed men near the Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi No3 in the jurisdiction of New Karachi police station.
The deceased was identified as 50 Mairajuddin son of Jamal. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for completion of medico-legal formalities. A woman was killed after being hit by a stray bullet while she was hanging clothes at roof of her house in Abdullahabad in Surjani Town No6. She was identified as Afshan, 40
The body of a man bearing torture marks was found in the Mosamiyat area falling in the limits of Sachal police station. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. The body was later shifted to Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination.
A labourer died when a wall at a construction site caved in on him in the Zaman Town area of Korangi. The deceased was identified as Imran, 35. Meanwhile Rangers arrested 60 suspects during targeted operations in various parts of city.
According to the spokesman for Rangers, a crackdown was conducted against criminals in Bilal Colony of Korangi after sealing off all entry and exit points. He said that 1,000 Rangers men took part in the operation. Sniffer dogs were also used during the operation in which 15 people were taken into custody. Arms and ammunition were also recovered during the clean-up operation.
Police also arrested 24 suspects, including an alleged killer for hire. A number of arms were also seized. Sources said that the targeted killer had links with an unspecified political party. Weapons, satellite phones and a telescope were also seized.
