IGP claims Punjab is 'free of crime' province

Punjab is being emerged as a crime-free province in the country, which would help attract foreign direct investment besides providing conducive environment for investment to the local businessmen. Inspector General Police Haji Habibur Rehman claimed this while speaking at the regional office of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
Capital City Police Officer Muhammad Aslam Tareen and other senior officials were also present on the occasion. "Since I took over the charge, crime rate in the province has been started declining" he also claimed. Habibur Rehman further said that 350 police encounters took place during his regime in which 350 criminals had to face their logical end while 25 police officers and Jawans were also martyred. Out of these encounters, six were found fake in the judicial inquiry, subsequently the police officials were punished under the disciplinary action, he added.
