Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) has finally appointed Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the permanent party president on Monday.
According to local media reports, Shehbaz was appointed as the president without any competitors, as no other name was nominated by the PML-N for the party president. The nomination papers of Shehbaz have also been submitted in the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif likely to be made acting president of PML-N
On February 27, the Central Working Committee had elected Shehbaz as the acting president of PML-N. Shehbaz’s name was nominated by elder brother deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
After the disqualification of Nawaz as the PML-N head, there were speculations of a rift between the party as to who would be appointed as the party head. Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of Nawaz, and daughter Maryam Nawaz, along with Shehbaz, were the top candidates to be possibly handed the baton to.
