The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the Punjab government to submit its reply within a week in a petition seeking judicial inquiry into causalities of citizens after administering Tyno Syrup.
The petitioner, Trade Welfare Organisation of Tolinton Market, also prayed to the court to direct the respondent to take necessary measures for stopping sale of narcotics and such spurious drugs. Petitioner counsel, Azhar Siddique, said that many cardiac patients had lost their lives in 2011 after taking contaminated medicines from Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), and now in last month many other citizens had also died in Shahdra after having a cough syrup Tyno.
He said the causalities due to spurious medicine had become a normal practice in the Punjab and no one was paying attention on the issue. He pointed out that it was duty of the courts to ensure the fundamental rights of the masses given to them in Constitution of Pakistan. He urged the court to summon officials of Anti-Narcotics Force for explanation behind a shocking increase in sale of narcotics in the society. He pointed out that narcotics and drugs business was increasing day by day and now these items were easily available in the society.
