Apropos a news item 'PCCC employees have yet to get Ad Hoc Relief Allowance 2012', it needs to be made clear that PCCC generates its own funds to finance its cotton research activities. For this reason, the old cess money paid on one bale of cotton consumed in the country, or exported abroad, was lately raised to Rs 50 per bale. This shows that this amount is not being collected honestly, which should be ensured to make up its deficit.
It is sad to see that a federally-financed cotton research organisation is facing financial crunch. While the PCCC left its location on M. T. Khan Road, Karachi received about Rs 580 crores for its infrastructure and rehabilitated and to keep all research facilities under one roof. Why PCCC is reluctant to have its own building for its permanent relocation, needs to be looked into by the concerned authorities to appease the growing anxiety of the working staff.
