Army, FC help to verify voter lists: ECP sends letter to Defence, Interior secretaries

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sent letters to Secretary Defence Asif Yasin Malik and Secretary Interior K M Siddique Akbar, for provision of services of Pakistan Army and FC, respectively, for assisting the commission's door-to-door verification process of electoral rolls in Karachi Division.
According to the letter, the Supreme Court has directed the ECP to carry out complete door-to-door verification of electoral rolls in Karachi. "Thus, the ECP will ensure that no voter is disenfranchised or dislocated and all other discrepancies are rectified as early as possible."
The letter further stated that in view of the peculiar security situation in Karachi, such verification "must be carried out by the Commission with the help and assistance of Pakistan Army and the FC". Meanwhile, the ECP has decided to solicit views of political parties in on the issue of delimitation of constituencies in Karachi Division in the light of the Apex Court's observations. Letters have also been sent to political parties, asking them to nominate "not more than two representatives to attend the meeting to be held on December 20 this year at 10:30am.
